Choosing a venue on Lake Garda
We've written before about why Garda films differently from Como — wider light, a longer golden hour, an atmosphere that feels lived-in rather than staged. This list narrows that down to the venues themselves: the two estates we've filmed at directly, and the others that consistently come up as the lake's strongest choices, both in our own conversations with planners and across the wedding press.

Villa Bettoni, Bogliaco
We filmed Claudia and Michael's wedding here — see their film, and it remains one of the most architecturally significant properties on the lake — still inhabited by the Bettoni family rather than run purely as an event space, which gives it a lived-in presence few historic villas manage. The monumental Italian garden connects to the villa by two stone bridges crossing the main road; the couple crossing them together is one of our favorite shots to film here, because the composition does the work on its own. The villa faces east, so morning light is soft and direct on the façade, while the building casts natural shade over the terrace by late afternoon — comfortable for guests, and flattering as the opposite mountains pick up warm sunset color.
Isola del Garda, San Felice del Benaco
We've filmed intimate elopements on this private island, and the arrival by boat sets a tone nothing else on the lake quite matches. The neo-Gothic villa rises out of the water surrounded entirely by lake and sky; we typically film the arrival from a second boat or by drone, within ENAC regulations, which gives the day a natural opening sequence. Everything here runs by boat, music ends strictly at midnight, and the ceremony usually takes place in the frescoed Loggia — the architecture frames the couple precisely enough that minimal floral design is needed. It suits a focused, smaller-scale celebration well, often continuing on the mainland afterward.
Other well-regarded venues on the lake
We haven't filmed at the venues below ourselves, but they're consistently named among the lake's best by wedding publications and the planners we work alongside.
Villa San Vigilio, Punta San Vigilio — Set on one of Garda's most recognized peninsulas, with a private harbor and centuries of history. Surrounded by olive groves, the atmosphere leans calm and understated rather than grand — a strong fit for couples who want the lake's romance without its largest guest lists.
Convento dell'Annunciata — A converted convent near the lake with indoor and outdoor spaces built to host every part of a wedding day under one roof, up to around 150 guests. A good option for couples who want Garda's atmosphere but want the ceremony, dinner, and reception in a single location rather than moving between venues.
Villa Cortine Palace Hotel, Sirmione — A 19th-century residence with lush gardens, marble terraces, and direct lakefront access in the heart of Sirmione, generally considered one of the lake's most exclusive addresses.
Villa Fiordaliso, Gardone Riviera — Known for its Art Nouveau architecture and Michelin-starred kitchen, better suited to intimate, design-conscious weddings than large-scale celebrations.
Villa del Sogno, Gardone Riviera — Regularly named alongside Isola del Garda and Villa Fiordaliso as one of the lake's most outstanding venues, with panoramic hillside views over the water.
Villa Arcadio, above Salò — Set in the hills rather than on the shoreline itself, with views over both lake and countryside and interiors that mix historic and modern in a way that photographs cleanly. Generally hosts smaller weddings, up to around 80 guests.
Torre San Marco, Gardone Riviera — Once associated with the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio, carrying a strong early-twentieth-century character. Its private harbor allows for evening filming with reflections on the water, which makes it a distinctive choice for a welcome dinner or evening event rather than the ceremony itself.
Choosing between them
Garda's venues split fairly cleanly into two categories: island and shoreline estates built for a contained, photogenic day (Isola del Garda, Villa San Vigilio, Torre San Marco), and larger historic villas built to host a full wedding weekend (Villa Bettoni, Villa Cortine Palace). Which one fits depends on your guest count and how much you want the venue itself to shape the day's structure — an island wedding runs on its own schedule in a way a hillside villa doesn't.
